A foreign travel vlogger has taken social media by storm after sharing a heartfelt tribute to the warmth and generosity she experienced in Kerala, describing the State as a place that “melts our hearts”.
“They are just too kind here”
In an Instagram video titled Kerala melts our hearts, travel vlogger Maria Green recounted a simple but touching interaction with a local shopkeeper during her recent visit to India.
Showing the snacks she had purchased — including a soft drink, protein shakes, Oreos and Lays — Green expressed surprise at the low cost. According to her, the items cost less than one euro.
“It was 95 cents. I gave them 100. They didn’t have change, so she just gave me these,” she said, holding up extra chocolates the shopkeeper had added instead of returning coins.
The gesture, though small, deeply moved the vlogger, who described the people in Kerala as “just too kind”.
“India surprised us”
In another clip, Green reflected on her broader travel experience across India. “India surprised us and gave us memories we’ll carry forever. From the chaos to the kindness, this trip was unforgettable and leaving was harder than we expected,” she said.
The video has garnered over 6.5 lakh views, with hundreds of comments from users welcoming her to “God’s Own Country” — a popular moniker for Kerala.
Many users pointed out that shopkeepers in India often offer candies when small change is unavailable, calling it a common yet charming local practice. Others recommended she explore Old Kochi and try traditional snacks and drinks.
The viral post has once again highlighted Kerala’s enduring reputation for hospitality, reinforcing why the southern State continues to be one of India’s most cherished travel destinations.
