In a tragic accident on Tuesday afternoon, a KSRTC bus plunged into the Kaliyambuzha river near Thiruvambadi, Kozhikode, after hitting a culvert, resulting in the deaths of two women and injuries to several passengers. The deceased have been identified as Thresiamma Mathew (75) from Anakkampoyil and Kamala (61) from Velamkunnel. The accident occurred around 1:40 PM as the bus, which was nearly at full capacity, was traveling from Anakkampoyil to Thiruvambadi. A passenger on board reported that the bus swerved after colliding with the culvert and then fell into the river.

Rescue operations commenced immediately, with several passengers being rushed to local hospitals, including Kozhikode Medical College, a private facility in Omaserry, and another hospital in Mukkam. The condition of three passengers remains critical, with one seriously injured individual transferred to Kozhikode Medical College for specialized care.

Efforts are still underway to retrieve the bus from the river and ensure no additional passengers are trapped inside. Local authorities, including ward member Lissy Abraham, are overseeing the rescue and recovery operations. The cause of the accident is under investigation as authorities work to prevent further tragedies of this nature.
