In a tragic incident that has shocked Tamil Nadu’s Valparai region, a four-year-old girl was killed in a leopard attack near the Pachamalai tea estate in Coimbatore district. The incident occurred on Friday evening when the child, Roshini Kumari, was playing outside her home.

The leopard, reportedly hiding in the tea bushes, suddenly lunged at the girl and dragged her into the nearby forest. Her distraught parents, Manoj Kunda and Monika Devi — migrant workers from Jharkhand — raised the alarm immediately.

A massive search operation was launched on Saturday morning involving police, forest department officials, and sniffer dogs. After combing the area, the child’s mutilated body was discovered around 300 metres away in a thickly wooded area. Forest staff recovered the remains for a post-mortem examination.

The gruesome attack has raised serious concerns about increasing human-wildlife conflict in the region, especially in settlements close to forest and estate boundaries.
