New Delhi: In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Dalit BJP MP has accused Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of misbehaving with him.
According to the letter written by Chhote Lal Kharwar, an MP from UP’s Robertsganj Constituency, he had been to meet the chief minister twice but was “thrown out” of his office.
Naming two other BJP party leaders, chief Mahendra Nath Pandey and leader Sunil Bansal, Kharwar claimed that he was discriminated against and was being ignored by his own party members.
In addition to his party’s state leaders allegedly giving his political opponents from the Chandauli district more importance, he claimed that senior police and district officials also discriminated against him because he was a Dalit.
Even though the BJP has not commented on the allegations, it has been reported that the prime minister has assured the MP that action would be taken.
The letter comes on the heels of the national protests by Dalit groups in opposition of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that there should be no immediate arrests of public servants under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Eight people lost their lives as some of the protests took a violent turn.
