A lorry transporting ₹57 lakh in coins from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Bengaluru to Raichur overturned near Rayar Palya Gate in Nelamangala Taluk on Tuesday night. Thankfully, the driver emerged unharmed.

The accident was triggered when the rear wheels of the vehicle slipped into a roadside ditch. Reports suggest that a nearby mud mound gave way just as the driver attempted to park, leading to the lorry toppling over.

Despite the dramatic incident, there was no immediate loss reported. The coins—comprising ₹1 and ₹2 denominations—were securely packed in double-layered sacks inside the locked lorry, which prevented them from spilling out.

Bank officials and police responded promptly to the scene. Under security supervision, the cargo was carefully transferred to another lorry. As of now, authorities have not confirmed if any coins were lost or damaged in the process.

An investigation is underway to assess the extent of the damage and ensure all currency is accounted for.
