Bhopal : In a bizarre incident, a judge in a district court in Madhya Pradesh‘s Ratlam received a letter warning of the sender’s plan to commit suicide and enclosing a poisonous powder.
The person, who sent the letter through post, said that if justice is not done with him sooner, he will consume the poisonous power (sulphas) to end his life.
When Judge Mugdha Kumar of the Ratlam District Court opened the envelope that a staff member had given her during the proceedings, she was uneasy due to the powdery smell inside.
She questioned the employee who had received the letter; additionally, the district judge had been notified. The local police were also notified of the situation, and the letter writer was taken into custody on Tuesday.
The person has been identified by the police as Dashrath Sharma, a district resident who lives in the village of Ringaniya.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Rakesh, Sharma filed a complaint in 2023 alleging that his father and wife, among other family members, had beaten and harassed him. Sharma sent the letter to request a prompt ruling in the case, which has been pending before the court since December of last year.
Police stated that more investigation into the matter was being conducted.
