Pune: Journalist Nikhil Wagle’s car came under attack on Friday in Pune, allegedly by BJP workers, as he was en route to attend an event, according to officials. The incident occurred amidst protests against Wagle’s comments regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi and LK Advani following Advani being awarded the Bharat Ratna.

An official from the Deccan police station reported that BJP workers hurled ink at the car carrying Wagle, along with Aseem Sarode and Vishwambhar Choudhary, who were under police protection on their way to the ‘Nirbhay Bano’ event organized by Rashtra Seva Dal.

Footage captured the moment BJP workers surrounded the car at Khandoji Baba Chowk, causing damage to its windscreen and side panes.
Despite the attack, Wagle managed to reach the event venue under police escort, as confirmed by the official.

Speaking at the ‘Nirbhay Bano’ event, Nikhil Wagle expressed forgiveness towards his assailants, noting that this was the seventh time he had been attacked.
Earlier in the day, a case was registered against Wagle in Pune for allegedly making offensive remarks against the PM and LK Advani.

According to the official, Wagle faces charges under sections 153A, 500, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code, as filed by senior BJP leader Sunil Deodhar.
The controversy arose after Wagle’s remarks concerning PM Modi and LK Advani in response to the Bharat Ratna announcement for the latter.

Pune BJP had urged the police to deny permission for the ‘Nirbhay Bano’ event, while Shiv Sena’s Pune city president Pramod Bhangire stated their opposition was specifically against Wagle’s participation due to his divisive remarks.
