Mumbai: In a unique move that could enhance the experience of using metro rails, the Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) has launched a new type of ticketing system where passengers can scan a QR-coded wristband on the automated fare collection (AFC) gate. Soon, more than 4 lakh passengers using the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro 1 will flaunt this QR-coded wristband.

The wristband, called TapTap, was launched by the MMOPL on Wednesday, April 10. These silicone-based material-made bands, according to the authorities, operate without batteries, are waterproof, dustproof, can bear any kind of harsh weather conditions, and are skin-friendly.

The bands eliminate the need to tender exact change at the ticket counter, and users can load funds as needed, said officials. The authorities have launched an inaugural offer of Rs 200, available at all customer care windows on the VAG corridor. Commuters can purchase and recharge the wristbands similar to the store value pass already in use.

“Commuters can simply tap their wristbands at the AFC gates of Line 1 and seamlessly continue their journey,” said an MMOPL spokesperson.
