A disturbing case of honour-based violence has emerged from Mandawala village in Khed taluka, Pune district, where a 43-year-old man was attacked by a mob of 15–16 people, including his in-laws, over his intercaste marriage. His wife, Prajakta Kashid (28), was abducted during the assault, and the accused are currently absconding.

The incident occurred on August 3 at around 1:15 PM, when the victim, Vishwanath Gosavi, a hardware shop owner, was at home. While cleaning his ashram room, he heard his wife scream from the second floor. As he rushed up, he was blocked and beaten by the mob, including Akshay alias Ganesh Rajaram Kashid (Prajakta’s brother), cousin Bunty Kashid, mother Sushila Kashid, and several unidentified individuals.

The FIR reveals that Prajakta was dragged by her hair, slapped, and forcibly taken down the stairs. When Vishwanath tried to intervene, he was brutally beaten with bamboo sticks and rods, resulting in a leg fracture. Even bystanders who tried to help were allegedly assaulted.

The mob then abducted Prajakta in an SUV, fleeing the scene. Police confirmed that the motive behind the attack was the couple’s intercaste marriage, with the woman’s family having objected since their wedding on August 5, 2024, in Alandi.

Khed Police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bhartiya Nyaay Sanhita, and efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the accused.
