New Delhi: A man died in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district as he was stoned to death from a treetop by monkeys. The man was identified as Dharampal Singh and was 72-years old.

According to reports, the incident took place in Tikri village as the man was on his way to fetch wood when he was hurled with bricks to his head and chest by a group of monkeys on a treetop.

The family of the deceased wanted to file an FIR and name the simians as the accused but when the police registered the case as an accident, they were enraged and demanded intervention by higher authorities in the case.

Station officer of Doghat police, Chitwan Singh said they couldn’t register a case against monkeys as that would make them into a laughingstock.

Prior to this incident, rogue monkeys have continued to be a menace in UP, in July a five-year-old boy suffered severe burns when a group of monkeys dumped a polythene bag containing ‘sutli’ (crude) bombs on him in Fatehpur. With him, there were two other people who were injured in the incident.
