Imphal: The Opposition bloc INDIA team arrived in Manipur for a two-day visit to assess the state’s situation. On Sunday, they are scheduled to meet Governor Anusuiya Uikey. During their visit, they met Kuki leaders and victims in relief camps in the riot-hit town of Churachandpur. Later, they visited relief camps for Meitei community victims in Imphal.
TMC MP Sushmita Dev mentioned that they met one of the two women who were subjected to a horrific incident on May 4, along with her mother. The mother requested their help to see the bodies of her son and husband who were killed during the incident. They plan to address this matter with the Governor during their Sunday meeting.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s India Region conference, a four-day event, also addressed the situation in Manipur. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed concern and called for peace.
Apart from Manipur, election preparations have begun in states heading for polls. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Madhya Pradesh is part of these preparations. BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya predicts the party will secure over 160 seats in the 230-member Assembly in the upcoming polls. Shah has taken charge of the MP and Chhattisgarh elections for the BJP.
