On Monday, 11 polling places in the northeastern state’s inner-Manipur Parliamentary constituency started holding re-polls.
The Election Commission ordered reelection after violent incidents were reported from these Manipur polling places on April 19.

During Friday’s first phase of the Lok Sabha elections, some miscreants allegedly opened fire and even destroyed the EVMs at these polling places.

Security has been tightened in all the polling stations to avoid any mishaps.

A local told ANI, “We have come to vote. Re-poll is happening. The security has been heightened.”

Manipur saw a voter turnout of 69.18 per cent till 7 pm on Friday.

The affected polling stations where repolling is being conducted are Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School and S. Ibobi Primary School (East Wing), in the Khurai assembly constituency, four in Kshetrigao, one in Thongju, three in Uripok, and one in Konthoujam.

Violence was reported at a few polling places in war-torn Manipur, where some miscreants opened fire and even destroyed electronic voting machines.

During the violence on April 19, there were reports of clashes at a polling booth in Moirangkampu Sajeb Awang Leikai, Imphal, Manipur, during the Lok Sabha elections, and one civilian injured following the firing.

The Lok Sabha was chosen by the votes cast in all 32 assembly segments of the inner Manipur parliamentary constituency and all 15 assembly segments of the outer Manipur (ST) parliamentary constituency.

The voting for the remaining 13 segments of Outer Manipur will be held in the second phase on April 26.

On June 4, there will be a vote count.
