The Malayalam action thriller Marco, starring Unni Mukundan and directed by Haneef Adeni, has become one of the biggest hits of 2024. Surpassing Rs 100 crore globally in just 23 days, the film marks a major career milestone for Mukundan. Despite entering its final weeks in theaters, Marco continues to draw strong audiences, solidifying its place as a top performer.

The film has performed exceptionally well across various regions, with Kerala contributing around Rs 45 crore to its total earnings. The Hindi-speaking regions also played a significant role, bringing in about Rs 12 crore. Initially starting with just Rs 1 lakh on its opening day in North India, Marco quickly gained momentum thanks to its positive reviews and thrilling action sequences. Released just before Christmas, Marco has now become the seventh highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2024 globally. Experts predict it could reach Rs 110 crore if it maintains its success in the coming weeks.

Despite tough competition from Mohanlal’s Barroz and Tovino Thomas’s Identity, Marco remained a favorite among Kerala audiences. However, its collections slightly slowed during the fourth weekend with the release of Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram.

In a new development, Marco is set to debut on digital platforms soon. Netflix has secured the film’s streaming rights and will release it in multiple languages, including Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, likely by late January or early February 2025. The streaming version is expected to include extended scenes and extra content not shown in theaters.

A spin-off of the 2019 film Mikhael, Marco follows Unni Mukundan’s character, Marco, who returns from Italy to avenge the murder of his adopted blind brother, Victor. The revenge thriller showcases Marco’s relentless pursuit of justice after Victor identifies his killer, Russell Isaac.
