Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has criticised the Yogi Adityanath government for what she describes as “bulldozer politics” and called for a more effective strategy to address the issue of wild animals encroaching on human habitats in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Her comments come amid increasing incidents of wild animal attacks in the state.

Call for Action on Wild Animal Encroachments

Mayawati has expressed concern over reports of wild animals attacking children, the elderly, and young adults in various districts of UP. She has urged the government to implement measures to prevent such incidents, noting that labourers and the poor are struggling to provide fodder for their animals. Mayawati’s statement highlights a need for a strategic approach to manage the wildlife issues affecting local communities.

Critique of “Bulldozer Politics”

In her remarks, Mayawati also addressed the ongoing political debate over “bulldozer politics,” which involves the demolition of properties associated with criminal activities. She advised the Yogi Adityanath government and the Samajwadi Party to leave this issue to the Supreme Court, where legal justice can be sought.

This critique follows a recent statement by Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan of the Supreme Court, who questioned the legality of demolishing homes based solely on accusations or convictions without proper legal procedures. This observation has led to a contentious exchange between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Adityanath defended the bulldozer actions as courageous, while Yadav challenged Adityanath to campaign on a “bulldozer” symbol if he was confident in his approach.

Urgent Call for Justice in a Disturbing Case

Additionally, Mayawati condemned a recent incident in Basti district where a private ambulance driver allegedly attempted to molest and rape a woman. The woman’s husband had recently passed away, adding to the tragedy of the situation. Mayawati has called for strict action against the accused driver, emphasising the need for swift and severe justice.
