MEERUT: A 16-year-old domestic help in Meerut gave birth to a boy after allegedly being abused by her employer’s son and his friends, police said on Wednesday. The case has prompted authorities to launch a detailed investigation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The girl’s mother alleged that her female employer would give her daughter spiked tea, after which her son and his friends would take advantage of her. The situation came to light only when the girl gave birth, prompting immediate police action.
Police action and arrests
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada confirmed that the main accused, Bittu, has been arrested. Two other individuals, Magvendra Singh and Mukul Jain, have also been booked in connection with the case under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the penal code. The case has been registered at Nauchandi Police Station.
A special team led by a female circle officer has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the arrest of the remaining accused. SSP Tada emphasised that the matter is being treated with utmost sensitivity, given the victim’s age and the nature of the allegations.
Support and medical care for the minor
The minor is currently under medical supervision and receiving appropriate care. Police sources stated that efforts are being made to provide her with both physical and psychological support, recognising the trauma involved in early pregnancy and abuse. Authorities have also pledged to ensure her safety and protection throughout the investigation.
Child rights organisations and social workers have expressed concern over the case, highlighting it as an example of the risks faced by young domestic workers. The incident has sparked discussions on the need for stricter monitoring and protection measures for minors employed in households.
Community response and legal framework
The case has generated public outrage in Meerut, with residents demanding swift and strict action against the accused. The POCSO Act provides for stringent penalties for crimes against minors, including imprisonment and fines, aiming to protect children from all forms of abuse.
Police officials assured that the investigation is being conducted transparently and thoroughly, with the objective of holding the accused accountable and preventing similar incidents in the future. Legal experts also emphasise the importance of support systems for victims, including counselling, rehabilitation, and legal assistance.
