Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on August 10, 2025, officially inaugurated the long-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro, marking a significant step forward for Bengaluru’s public transport. Spanning 19.15 km, the new route links R.V. Road to Bommasandra and is set to dramatically improve connectivity to the city’s tech corridor, especially Electronic City.
The PM flagged off the train from Ragigudda Metro Station. He also explored the newly installed QR code-based ticket vending machines and boarded the inaugural ride toward Electronics City. A woman locomotive pilot operated the train for the maiden journey, even though the line is designed for future driverless operations. According to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), Mr. Modi is also scheduled to engage with students traveling on the same train.
Years in the making, the Yellow Line aims to reduce the daily commuter struggle, particularly around the heavily congested Silk Board junction. Its launch is seen as a major boost for thousands employed in the tech industry who rely on efficient transit options.
Apart from the metro, the Prime Minister also launched three new Vande Bharat Express trains: one connecting KSR Bengaluru to Belagavi, another between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Amritsar, and a third linking Nagpur (Ajni) with Pune.
Capping off the visit, Mr. Modi laid the foundation stone for Namma Metro’s Phase 3 expansion at the IIIT-B campus in Electronics City.
