With the monsoon painting Idukki in vibrant shades of green, the district’s natural beauty has reached new heights. The rains have turned this mountainous terrain into a mist-cloaked wonderland, making it a haven for monsoon tourism. While Idukki is known for its dense forests, towering peaks, and winding rivers, it’s the waterfalls—over 500 of them—that steal the show during the rainy season.
Among the many cascading marvels, the waterfall at Sreenarayanapuram, near Rajakkad, stands out. Also called Ripple Waterfalls, this enchanting cascade is a must-visit for those seeking nature at its raw, untouched best. Easily accessible with a 3 km drive from Panniyarkutty via Adimali-Kallarkutty, the falls are on the way to Rajakkad through Kunjithanni along the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway.
Set along the Muthirapuzha River, about 1.5 km from Thekkinkanam, the five-tiered falls offer a mesmerizing spectacle. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has set up a viewing pavilion, enhancing the visitor experience while preserving the serenity of the place.
The post-rain rush of water makes this destination ideal for monsoon adventurers, though flow may reduce during summer. Yet, in the rainy season, Sreenarayanapuram shines as one of Idukki’s most breathtaking attractions.
