A shocking incident has emerged from the Amraiwadi area of Ahmedabad, where a two-and-a-half-month-old infant died after falling into a water tank. The child’s mother has been arrested, with police registering a case of culpable homicide.
Infant found in water tank
The complaint was filed by the child’s father, Deepak Makwana, who resides in Siddheshwari Nagar in Amraiwadi. According to police, the incident occurred while he was away, reportedly standing in line to book a gas cylinder.
He rushed home after being alerted by a neighbour, only to find a crowd gathered and his infant daughter in distress. The child was immediately taken to hospital, where she was declared dead.
Mother’s account raises suspicion
During questioning, the accused mother, Monica Makwana, reportedly told her husband that the child had accidentally slipped from her hands and fallen into the water tank while she had gone to switch on the motor.
Police said she allegedly failed to immediately alert others and instead closed the tank lid and placed a basin over it, reportedly out of fear of being blamed. This action raised serious concerns and led to her arrest.
Case registered, probe continues
Amraiwadi Police have registered a case of culpable homicide and initiated an investigation. Statements from family members and neighbours are being recorded to establish the exact sequence of events.
Community in shock
The incident has left the local community shaken, with many expressing grief over the tragic loss of the infant. The case has also raised concerns over safety practices and timely response in emergency situations.
Authorities said further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
