Amid communal tensions in Murshidabad’s Domkal following the enactment of the Waqf Amendment Act, a heartwarming story of unity and compassion has emerged. In the Bhatshala area, Muslim owners of a brick kiln went above and beyond to ensure that a Hindu couple, Simul (20) and Shiuli (18), could marry in accordance with Hindu rituals.
Both Simul and Shiuli hail from Murarai in Birbhum and have been working at Maria Brick Kiln along with their families for the past five years. Despite being in love for years, they had been unable to get married due to financial constraints.
When Mustafa Sheikh, one of the kiln partners, learned about their situation, he stepped in to help. “They’ve been like family to us. We couldn’t let them go without a proper wedding,” he shared with India Today TV. Mustafa and other members of the Muslim community, including young villagers, organized and funded the entire wedding ceremony.
The couple tied the knot at a Hindu temple in Kalitala, Domkal, with all traditional Hindu rituals. From food and decorations to gifts and even gold jewellery, everything was taken care of by the kiln owners and well-wishers. The families of the bride and groom expressed deep gratitude for the generosity shown during such challenging times.
This inspiring gesture of solidarity and mutual respect amidst unrest has been widely praised as a beacon of communal harmony and humanity, reminding everyone that compassion can rise above all divides.
