A tragic accident in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district has claimed the life of a three-year-old child who was run over by the same school bus he had just alighted from.
The incident occurred in Kayampura village under Paniala police station limits, leaving the local community in shock and anger.
Accident moments after alighting
The deceased, Loukit, a nursery student at Pratap Vidya Mandir School, had just got down from the bus along with his cousin. Their house was located across the road.
As the child attempted to cross in front of the bus, the driver allegedly moved the vehicle forward without noticing him. The front wheel on the conductor’s side ran over the child’s head, killing him on the spot.
Driver flees, villagers protest
Following the accident, the driver reportedly fled with the bus, abandoning the scene. Other children on board were later dropped about a kilometre away.
The incident triggered outrage among villagers, who gathered at the spot and demanded immediate action against the driver. Tensions escalated, leading to arguments with police and officials.
Authorities step in
Officials, including DSP Rajendra Budbak and Tehsildar Ramdhan Gurjar, reached the scene and managed to pacify the crowd.
A complaint has been filed by the child’s father, and the Rajasthan Police have launched a search for the absconding driver.
Safety concerns raised
The incident has once again highlighted serious lapses in school transport safety, particularly regarding supervision while children board and alight from buses.
Authorities have urged strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
