Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has activated a 24×7 control room at Odisha Niwas in New Delhi to assist people from the State following the deadly flash floods in Nepal that have left hundreds missing.
However, authorities said there is no official information yet confirming whether any person from Odisha has been affected by the disaster.
Helpline activated for Odisha residents
Additional Chief Secretary of the Home and Information & Public Relations departments, Hemant Sharma, said the control room was established following advice from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
A helpline has also been issued to help families seeking information about relatives or tourists who may have travelled to Nepal.
Sharma said the State government was awaiting further details and expected to have more information by Thursday morning.
Officials in touch with MEA
Pritish Panda, Officer on Special Duty at the Directorate of Odisha Parivar, has been appointed as the nodal officer for the initiative.
Panda said he was coordinating with the MEA to establish whether any people from Odisha were among those affected by the floods.
According to officials, the Nepal government has not yet released state-wise information on missing or affected Indian nationals, making it difficult to determine the status of people from Odisha.
The control room is expected to provide a point of contact for families as authorities continue gathering information about the disaster and those caught in the affected areas.
The Odisha government’s move comes as rescue and relief operations continue in Nepal following devastating flash floods, with families across India anxiously awaiting information about relatives and tourists who remain untraceable.
