Hyderabad: A 25-year-old Sudanese student was rescued after accidentally falling into Hussainsagar Lake near NTR Gardens in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police spot student near lake

The student was identified as Nazar Adam Badawy Mahadi, who studies at Bhagwant University in Ajmer, Rajasthan.

Saifabad police were on patrol at around 4.20 am when they noticed Mahadi standing near the grill along the lake. He suddenly slipped and fell into the water.

Rope helps pull him to safety

Police personnel immediately responded after seeing him fall. They used a rope to reach Mahadi and successfully pulled him out of the lake.

The quick intervention by the patrolling police team helped bring the student to safety without further incident.

Student was visiting Hyderabad

During questioning, Mahadi told police that he had arrived in Hyderabad a few days earlier to meet his brother’s friend, who was in the city for medical treatment.

He said he had left his mobile phone at the friend’s house because its battery was low and had stepped out to visit different places in Hyderabad.

Passport and visa found valid

Police later verified Mahadi’s passport and visa and found both to be valid.

After completing the necessary formalities, police safely handed Mahadi over to the family of his brother’s friend.

The incident highlights how timely intervention by patrolling personnel can prove crucial in preventing accidents around water bodies, particularly during the early hours when fewer people may be present.
