Chennai: The officials of food and safety found around Rs 1,100 kg of suspected dog meat at Chennai Egmore Railway Station on Saturday, November 17.
According to sources, this dog meat was found in 11 polystyrene boxes and was in a decomposed state. The Railway Police Force (RPF) got a stench from the parcels kept on platform number 5. Following this, they stopped a few people who were about to carry the parcels away. Immediately, they abandoned the parcels and escaped, sources said.
A special team led by Dr. R Kathiravan of Tamil Nadu food safety department, Chennai division, on receiving information, reached the railway station and examined the parcels. When they opened the parcels they found rotten meat. The samples of meat were sent to Madras Veterinary College for testing.
Initially, the parcels were booked by someone at Gandhidham in Gujarat and they were dispatched in the Jodhpur-Mannargudi Express train three days ago.
It may be recalled that the police had recovered at least 1,600 kg of decomposed meat at Chennai Central Railway Station last month.
