Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had a quintessentially Hyderabadi response to India’s dramatic six-run Test win over England at The Oval on Sunday. Celebrating pacer Mohammed Siraj’s five-wicket haul, Owaisi posted on X:
“Always a winner @mdsirajofficial! As we say in Hyderabadi, poora khol diye Pasha!“
The phrase loosely translates to “He absolutely nailed it!”
Siraj, also a Hyderabad native, was named Man of the Match for his match-winning spell in the second innings—picking up five wickets, including three on the final day. He ended the five-match series with 23 wickets, playing a crucial role in helping India level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2.
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, introduced to honour legends James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar, replaced the earlier Pataudi and Anthony de Mello Trophies.
India’s win was especially remarkable given the absence of veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom recently retired from Test cricket. The team was led by Shubman Gill, who rose to the occasion with exceptional performances. Gill not only led from the front with the bat but also earned the Man of the Series title.
Siraj’s rise from a humble background to being a key figure in all formats continues to inspire, and his fellow Hyderabadi’s shoutout added a personal, cultural touch to a proud national moment.
