Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Janta Dal (United) (JDU) leader and outgoing Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday to extend his congratulations following Kumar’s resignation from his post. Accompanied by ministers Vijendra Yadav and Sanjay Jha, Kumar formally tendered his resignation to Governor Rajendra Arlekar.
The Governor accepted his resignation and appointed him as the caretaker CM until the formation of a new government.
In response to Kumar’s decision, Union Minister Giriraj Singh expressed gratitude, stating that Bihar was relieved from a potential “Jungle Raj 2-like situation.” Singh emphasized concerns over the prospect of Tejashwi Yadav assuming the CM position and appreciated Kumar’s resignation, averting what he deemed a challenging scenario. He further reassured that the BJP would prevent any resurgence of lawlessness in Bihar.
Nitish Kumar is expected to take the oath as the chief minister at 4 pm, with the presence of BJP National President JP Nadda.
