The upcoming event marks the eagerly anticipated unveiling of the Agra Metro Rail Project, which will establish a vital link between the eastern gate of the iconic Taj Mahal and the revered Mankameshwar Temple nestled in the heart of Agra city.

Scheduled for inauguration on March 6, the project will be ceremonially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a virtual ceremony, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also in attendance. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) proudly assert that the Metro services along the Priority Corridor, spanning 6 kilometers and completed in record time, will commence operation with this event.

This development heralds an exciting prospect for tourists exploring Agra, as it promises enhanced connectivity within the city, particularly to the renowned Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and other historical landmarks such as Agra Fort, Sikandra Tomb, among others.

Panchanan Mishra, the Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Public Relations at UPMRCL, emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “Agra’s rich cultural heritage, including its UNESCO World Heritage sites, coupled with the Agra Metro rail system, will offer seamless interconnectivity, greatly benefiting the influx of tourists visiting the city daily.”

Mishra elaborated on the operational details, explaining, “The Priority Corridor, spanning six stations over a 6-kilometer stretch, will feature three elevated stations: Taj East Gate, Shaheed Captain Shubham Gupta, and Fatehabad Road Station, alongside underground stations at Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Mankameshwar.”

Furthermore, Mishra outlined the broader scope of the Agra Metro Rail Project, comprising two corridors with a combined length of 29.4 kilometers. The first corridor, extending approximately 14 kilometers from Taj East Gate to Sikandra, will encompass 13 stations, while the second corridor, stretching from Agra Cantonment to Kalindi Vihar, will span 15.4 kilometers and include 14 stations.

The total estimated cost for the Agra Metro Rail Project stands at ₹8,379.62 crore, with the Priority Corridor completed at a cost of ₹2,100 crore. Notably, the corridors have been strategically planned to connect major transportation hubs, educational institutions, commercial centers, and tourist attractions across the city.

Mishra also highlighted the project’s commitment to environmental and safety standards, revealing that the primary and additional underground sections of the Agra Metro have received ISO 14001 certification for environmental management and ISO 45001 certification for safety management. Additionally, the three elevated stations—Taj East Gate, Shaheed Captain Shubham Gupta, and Fatehabad Road metro stations—have been bestowed with the prestigious Platinum rating by the Indian Green Building Council.
