New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday started initiated the process of profiling anti-social elements, soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about some people donning the role of “gau rakshaks” during the day and committing crimes at night.
Delhi Police spokesperson Taj Hasan said on Sunday at meeting that any anti-social incident will be dealt seriously. It was also decided at the meeting to direct policemen on the ground to create a database of miscreants who indulge in violence or incite passions on the pretext of protecting cows.
While the police have taken the remarks from PM, the groups of cow-protectors are angered. “We are deeply saddened…If anyone is using the Gau Rakshak platform to commit criminal activities, it’s wrong, but putting everyone in the same bracket is not correct…It’s a 5,000-year-old tradition that we are following,” said Navin Kumar, general secretary, Bharatiya Gau Rakhsha Dal.
Following a spate of incidents relating to cattle trafficking and cattle meat, PM Modi said on Sunday, “I would request the state governments to prepare a dossier on cow protection groups and they would find that 70% to 80% of them are anti-social elements.”
He slammed the ‘Gaurakshaks’ stating that more cattle died of eating plastics rather than being slaughtered by Muslims and Dalits.
