Kasaragod: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was hacked to death in Kerala’s Kannur district on Wednesday, October 12.

The victim was identified as Remith. He was killed by unidentified miscreants in front of a petrol pump in Pinarayi village around 10 a.m. He was declared brought dead at a hospital at Thalassery.

BJP has blamed CPM for this act. According to sources, Remith’s father was also murdered in 2002 while he was travelling by a bus.

This incident comes in the wake of the killing of 52-year-old CPI-M grassroot leader K. Mohanan, who was hacked to death by suspected RSS activists on Monday. Both of these murders took place in the assembly constituency of Dharmadom represented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The incident has led to tension around the area. Police have beefed up the security and massive searches are on in Kannur.

Condemning the killing, the BJP has called for a bundh on Thursday, October 13 from 6 am to 6 pm.

Kannur has witnessed a string of attacks on political workers since the Left government came to power in May. This is the eighth killing with political reason, since the beginning of 2016. Over 300 cases of political violence have been reported in the district in the past five months.
