The manager of a hotel in Pune’s Camp area has been charged after a woman claimed she discovered a cockroach in the soup served to her family during dinner.

The incident occurred on June 16, when Ashwini Shirsat (31), a resident of Dapodi, went to the hotel with her family. In her complaint, she stated that the soup brought to their table contained a cockroach. When she alerted the hotel staff, they allegedly responded with apathy and took no corrective action.

Shirsat later approached Lashkar police station, which registered a case against the hotel’s manager, Aman Hussain Shaikh, who lives in Azad Nagar, Bhiwandi.

Police officials noted that the hotel violated basic hygiene standards, thereby endangering public health. “We have involved the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate further. Based on their findings, we filed the case,” an officer confirmed.

The FIR was registered under Sections 125 and 271 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities have appealed to all restaurants and food businesses to strictly maintain cleanliness and comply with food safety laws to prevent such hazards.
