On Friday morning, an overhead wire fire almost avoided the passengers of the Puri-Jaynagar weekly express.
The incident happened on the major Patna-Howrah road between the railway stations at Simultala and Gorparan in the Kotarwa forest. The train was moving too quickly for the driver to engage the emergency brake. While Puri Express crossed the impacted area and broke a few iron rods, the train was stopped according to protocol.
Train driver R. Besera reported the event to Simultala railway station’s on-duty station master, Mahesh Kumar, who then notified other East Central Railway officials.
Many trains on the up-line, including the Mokama-Howrah express and the Hatia-Patliputra express, experienced a five-hour traffic halt as a result of this incident.
Railway engineers claimed that the passengers were lucky as the train would not have caught fire following this incident. After rectifying the errors, the railway operation restored on this busy route.
