Bengaluru: Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister KH Muniyappa announced the state government’s efforts to procure rice from other states, with plans to revert to distributing rice instead of cash to beneficiaries under the Anna Bhagya scheme. The initiative, promising 10 kilograms of rice every month, had initially faced challenges due to limited rice supplies from the Central government. However, the government is actively working to secure rice supplies from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
Minister Muniyappa emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the drought situation efficiently and highlighted the allocation of Rs 50,000 crore for guarantee schemes, with additional funds earmarked for future development projects. He assured the public that the government would uphold its commitments, with several schemes, including Annabhagya, Shakti Yojana, Griha Lakshmi, and Griha Jyoti, already successfully implemented. The fifth guarantee, the Yuva Nidhi Scheme, is set to be rolled out soon.
Additionally, the government is actively processing new ration card applications, with a focus on addressing complaints about unauthorized sales of PDS rice through rigorous measures by department officials.
