New Delhi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was on Monday elected the President of the country’s oldest political party, Returning Officer Mullappally Ramachandran announced here on Monday.
He will officially take charge of the party from Sonia Gandhi on December 16.
“Received 89 nomination papers for one candidate. As he is unopposed, I hereby declare Rahul Gandhi as the new president of the Congress Party. We will have a formal event on December 16 at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi,” says Congress’ Central Election Authority chairman Mullapally Ramachandran, while addressing a press conference.
