Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for promoting the concept of a single leader for the country, referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gandhi denounced this idea as an affront to the youth of India and the nation as a whole, emphasizing the diversity and richness of India’s population.
Addressing his party workers and constituents in his constituency of Wayanad ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi emphasized the importance of respecting the multitude of leaders that contribute to India’s diversity. He contrasted the Congress’ approach, which values listening to the people and honoring their beliefs, language, religion, and culture, with what he sees as the BJP’s top-down imposition of ideology.
Gandhi highlighted the fundamental difference between the Congress and the BJP, questioning why India couldn’t have multiple leaders representing its diverse populace. He rejected the BJP’s approach of centralization, advocating instead for a government that represents and serves all citizens.
During his visit to the Nilgiris district, Gandhi criticized the BJP’s manifesto for lacking provisions for the poor, contrasting it with the BJP’s focus on bidding for the 2036 Olympics. He also accused the BJP of promoting the concept of ‘one nation, one election’, asserting the need for a more inclusive and representative governance model.
Seeking re-election from Wayanad, Gandhi reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents and representing their interests in Parliament. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he secured victory from Wayanad with a significant margin of 4,31,770 votes.
