Lucknow: As the nation awaits the Supreme Court’s verdict on the century-old Ayodhya title dispute, the Ram Mandir’s principal sculptor Chandrakanth Bhai Sompura breathed his last.
Chandrakanth was the grandson of the principal architect of the Somanath Temple located in Gujarat.
He was constantly working on the carvings in a workshop known as ‘Nirmal Karyashala’ where stones were being carved for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir since 1990, despite the decades-old title dispute.
According to a report by News18, thousands of devotees who were flowing in for the “Panch Kosi Parikrama”, one of the prominent festivals for Hindus according to the Hindu calendar, returned disappointed as the Karyashala had come to an halt.
The devotees were unable to get a view of the carving process owing to the death of the Ram Mandir’s principal architect.
As per sources, currently, the carving process for the Ram Mandir has come to a stand still. The process is either expected to resume or stop permanently, depending on the verdict.
