New Delhi: Sachin Tendulkar ended his term as a member of the Rajya Sabha with a bang in true “master blaster” fashion when he donated his entire salary and allowances to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. It has been reported that the former Indian cricket star drew nearly Rs 90 lakhs in salaries and allowances over duration of six years.

Tendulkar’s altruistic gesture earned him a letter of acknowledgement from the Prime Minister’s Office which said that the Prime Minister was grateful for the thoughtful gesture and that the contribution would be of “immense help” in assisting those in distress.

During his tenure as MP, Tendulkar was criticised for attending only 29 of the total 400 Parliamentary sessions during which he had asked only 22 questions, his office claims.

He has however, made good use of the MP Local Area Development fund, data released by his office shows. Tendulkar has sanctioned a total of 185 projects across the country including those for educational and related structural development.

Tendulkar has also adopted two villages viz., Donja in Maharashtra and Puttam Raju Kandriga in Andhra Pradesh, under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana Scheme.
