In a stunning breakthrough, Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has arrested Ajay Lamba — a serial killer and robber who eluded capture for 24 years. Lamba was the mastermind behind a gang that brutally murdered cab drivers, dumped their bodies in hilly terrains, and sold the stolen vehicles in Nepal.

Lamba, now 48, was wanted in four chilling murder-cum-robbery cases dating back to 2001. Alongside his accomplices, Dhirendra and Dilip Negi, Lamba would hire taxis under the guise of passengers, sedate and strangle the unsuspecting drivers, then dispose of the bodies in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand. Only one victim’s body was ever recovered.

A school dropout from Delhi, Lamba later shifted to Bareilly and became entrenched in crime. His criminal record includes charges ranging from theft to arms possession. After fleeing, he lived in Nepal from 2008 to 2018, later moving to Dehradun with his family.

In recent years, Lamba got involved in narcotics trafficking, operating in the ganja supply chain from Odisha to Delhi. He was previously arrested under the NDPS Act in 2021 and again in a jewellery shop robbery in Behrampur, Odisha, in 2024 — but never revealed his past crimes.

Police tracked Lamba through a mix of manual and digital surveillance. He had been on bail in other cases and successfully concealed his identity and past involvement in the serial killings.

Authorities now suspect he may be linked to more unsolved murders. Interrogation is ongoing.
