Chamarajanagar: A tragic tiger attack claimed the life of a 36-year-old shepherdess, Hadiya Puttamma, in Deshipura Colony of Gundlupet taluk on Thursday. The incident occurred within the Omkar Forest Zone of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve.

Around 3 PM, while Puttamma was grazing her sheep near the forest fringes, a tiger reportedly lunged at her, inflicting fatal injuries to her neck and chest before dragging her into the nearby jungle. Alarmed by her sudden disappearance, local villagers launched a search and soon found her body a short distance away inside the forest.

Forest department officials from the Omkar Zone rushed to the scene and have begun a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the attack.

The incident has sparked fear among local communities and renewed calls for stronger human-wildlife conflict mitigation in areas surrounding tiger habitats.
