Chennai: Merely a few days after his comment that ‘First terrorist of independent India was a Hindu’, slippers were hurled at actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Wednesday evening, when he was campaigning in Tirupparankundram assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai.
Haasan had made his statement in a direct reference to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse. While eleven persons, including BJP workers and members of another outfit, Hanuman Sena, have been named in the police complaint, it is said that they hurled slippers towards the stage when Hasan was addressing the gathering. The slippers had missed the target and instead fell on the crowd.
Kamal Haasan’s party Makkal Needhi Maiam or the MNM, which has made a debut this national election, have fielded candidates from Aravakurichi and Tirupparankundram constituencies, which will face by polls on Sunday. The controversial statement was made by the actor-turned-politician at Aravakurichi.
