A 38-year-old software engineer and her two teenage children died after a suspected suicide pact near Cherlapally early Saturday, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Incident reported by train crew
The deceased were identified as P Vijaya (38), her daughter Chetana Reddy (18), and son Vishal Reddy (17), residents of Harithavanam Colony in Boduppal. According to a complaint filed at the Cherlapally railway station, a goods train’s loco pilot alerted authorities after noticing the trio on the tracks around 12.40 am.
Officers from the Secunderabad Govt Railway Police rushed to the spot and confirmed the deaths. Police said preliminary evidence points to suicide, though the precise motive is under investigation.
Note recovered; probe underway
Investigators found Vijaya’s car parked near the railway station and recovered a suicide note purportedly written by her. Addressed to her mother, the note stated that she was unhappy with her life despite trying hard, and that no one else should be held responsible. Police said the contents are being verified as part of the inquiry.
Vijaya worked with a private firm near Hi-Tec City, while both children were Intermediate students. Her husband, Surender Reddy, is employed with a Dubai-based company and returned to Hyderabad after receiving the news.
No financial distress indicated
Police said there was no indication of financial hardship. “At this stage, we suspect personal reasons. Statements of family members are being recorded,” an officer said. A case has been registered under BNSS Section 194 (suspicious death), and the bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The incident has reignited conversations around mental health awareness and the need for timely support systems for families facing emotional distress.
