A 15-year-old boy lost his life while two others sustained serious injuries after a Mahindra Thar allegedly plunged nearly 100 feet into a gorge during a stunt attempt in Haryana’s Faridabad district on Tuesday.

According to police, the SUV was being driven by 20-year-old Vikas when the accident occurred. The victim, a Class 9 student and son of a private company employee, died on the spot. Vikas and another minor, 16-year-old Hemant, suffered serious injuries and were admitted to Al-Falah Hospital in Dhauj.

Vehicle lost control during stunt

Police said the Thar had been purchased by Vikas’s family about a month ago. On Tuesday afternoon, he reportedly asked the victim and another friend to accompany him for a drive. The trio reached a hilly stretch nearly one kilometre inside from the Sohna–Ballabhgarh main road.

Investigators stated that the youths parked the vehicle near the edge of a cliff and began performing stunts. During the attempt, Vikas allegedly made a critical driving error, causing the SUV to lose control and plunge into the gorge.

Rescue and investigation

Passersby who witnessed the fall rushed to the scene and, after considerable effort, pulled the three out. They were immediately taken to hospital, where doctors declared the 15-year-old dead on arrival.

Dhauj Station House Officer Darpan Kumar said police initiated an investigation after receiving information from the hospital. The body was sent to Badshah Khan Hospital for post-mortem examination. With the help of a crane, the vehicle was later retrieved from the cliff.

Police said further investigation is underway.

The tragic incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and stunt attempts, particularly among young motorists.
