Mumbai: Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) officials arrested a suspected ISIS operative in a Mumbai airport on Saturday. Abu Zaid, hailing from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, is suspected to have been running a terror network from Saudi Arabia.
The operative is alleged to have been running a social media group in order radicalise young people in India and lure them into joining ISIS, it is reported.
Zaid’s name surfaced during the interrogation of four suspected ISIS operaties who were aprehended by UP police earlier in April. A look-out notice was issued against Zaid after evidence collected from the suspects (Umar alias Nazim, Ghazi Baba alias Muzammil, Mufti alias Faizan and Jakawan alias Eihtesham) pointed to him being the zealot of their group.
A UP police officer, Anand Kumar said that Zaid would be taken to Lucknow on a transit remand to be produced before the court. He has been taken into police custody for interrogation.
