Tiruvannamalai: Doctors at a private hospital in Tiruvannamalai successfully removed 23 five-rupee coins and several other objects from the stomach of a 16-year-old boy during an emergency surgery.
The patient, identified as Prithik Roshan, a resident of Ayyampalayam village near Tiruvannamalai, was brought to the hospital by his mother after he complained of severe stomach pain and vomiting.
Scan reveals several objects in stomach
Following an examination, general surgeon Dr Sundarapandian advised a scan, which revealed numerous sharp and metallic objects inside the teenager’s stomach.
When questioned, the boy’s mother reportedly told the doctor that household objects, including nail cutters and chains, had been disappearing from their home.
Given the findings, the medical team decided to conduct an emergency operation.
Doctors remove coins and other objects
With an anaesthetist assisting the team, the surgery was performed on Thursday night.
Doctors removed 23 five-rupee coins, a talisman, a nail cutter, a chain and several other metallic and unidentified objects from the boy’s stomach.
The medical team described the case as unusual and challenging because of the number and variety of foreign objects found inside the teenager’s digestive tract.
Teenager recovers after surgery
Following the operation, Prithik was kept under observation and received continued medical care.
His health parameters improved, and he was discharged from the hospital on Friday. He subsequently returned to his native village.
The case highlights the need for close supervision and timely medical attention when children or vulnerable individuals show unusual symptoms or may have swallowed foreign objects.
