Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth has plans to start a TV channel ahead of his electoral debut.
V M Sudhakar, administrator of Rajini Makkal Mandram and a die-hard fan of the actor has wished to start a TV channel. According to sources, Sudhakar has opted ‘Superstar TV’, ‘Rajini TV’ and ‘ Thalaivar TV’ for the trademark of the channel.
Rajinikanth’s team has applied for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the registration of TV channel. Sudhakar has also filed an application.
The registry has raised objections on similar trademarks for the yet to be launched channel but the actor’s team has defended the uniqueness of the application.
Rajinikanth’s lawyer, in his letter, stated, “Our client (V M Sudhakar) is a fan of actor Rajinikanth. So he opted for the same ‘Superstar TV’ as his trade name. The logo consists of a combination of designs and colours making it dependable and fancy and presented in a special design with innovative font and style, colour scheme and background with an artistic representation. Since our client is a fan of superstar, he has chosen Mr. Rajinikanth as his device.”
Political parties in Tamil Nadu run their own TV channels. AIDMK’s Jaya TV, DMK’s Kalaignar TV, M K Stalin family’s Sun TV and former leader of opposition Vijayakanth’s Captain TV are some of the noted channels.
Rajinikanth is yet to launch his political party, though he has announced that he will contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
