A 17-year-old boy was allegedly murdered and his body set ablaze near Majlis Park Metro Station in north-west Delhi in what police describe as a revenge killing.
Police said they received a call around 8.30 am on February 12 about a fire in a patch of jungle near the metro parking area. Upon reaching the spot, officers found a charred body lying close to a wall. The body was shifted to a hospital in Jahangirpuri, and identification efforts were initiated through ZIP Net alerts, wireless messages and public notices.
Family confirms identity
The deceased was later identified by his family at the mortuary. In her statement to police on February 16, the boy’s sister said he had studied up to Class X and had recently been released on bail from a juvenile home in connection with a murder case registered in August last year.
She stated that he had appeared disturbed in the days before he went missing and had told her that a man from Azadpur and his associates were threatening to kill him.
The boy left home on February 11 and did not return. His phone was switched off. While searching for him, the family reportedly saw a photograph of an unidentified body displayed at Ashok Vihar police station that matched him.
Arrest and ongoing probe
Police registered a murder case and launched an investigation. On February 17, a 25-year-old man was arrested following a tip-off. Officers seized a scooter allegedly used in the crime.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that he and an associate had planned the killing to avenge the murder of a neighbour. Police said the teenager was assaulted with a stone during a late-night drinking session on February 11 and later set on fire.
The second suspect remains absconding, and search operations are underway. Further investigation is in progress.
