A heart-wrenching incident from Mancherial district has shaken the local community, after a 14-year-old schoolboy allegedly died by suicide following a reprimand from his mother over studies.
The incident occurred late Monday evening in Dandepalli mandal. The boy, identified as Nyalam Akarsh, was a Class 9 student at a private school. According to preliminary information, his mother, Sridevi, had asked him to stop playing cricket and complete his pending homework, leading to a brief domestic argument.
Teen locked himself inside room
Family members said that Akarsh, visibly distressed after the scolding, went into his bedroom and locked the door from inside. When he failed to respond to repeated calls after some time, relatives grew anxious and broke open the door.
They found the teenager hanging from the ceiling fan. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Doctors, however, declared him dead on arrival.
Community in shock, police probe underway
The sudden death has left the family and neighbourhood in deep shock and mourning. Residents described Akarsh as a quiet and playful child who enjoyed cricket and school activities.
Local police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the death. The body was shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem examination before being handed over to the grieving family.
Initial police findings suggest the act may have been impulsive, triggered by emotional distress following the argument at home.
A grim reminder on adolescent mental health
Mental health professionals have repeatedly warned that adolescents often struggle to process emotions, especially under academic pressure. What may appear to be a routine parental reprimand can sometimes act as a tipping point for children already dealing with internal stress.
The incident underscores the urgent need for open communication, emotional support, and awareness around teenage mental health—both at home and in schools.
