Hyderabad: A significant crackdown on a counterfeit Mysore Sandal soap network has been reported in Hyderabad. In a collaborative operation led by KSDL (Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited) and local authorities, goods worth approximately Rs. 2,00,00,000, including counterfeit products and packing materials, were seized.
As per the News 18 report, the discovery was prompted by a call to Minister M.B Patil, who is also the President of KSDL, informing him of the presence of fake Mysore Sandal soaps in the Hyderabad market. Taking prompt action, the responsibility to handle the situation was delegated to the factory manager, Dr. Prashant.
Following leads obtained from an official trading office in Sikandarabad, KSDL workers initiated an investigation into the fake Mysore Sandal soap supply chain. Undercover purchases of Rs. 1,00,000 worth of fake products were made to trace the elusive suppliers.
During the festive season, the department placed an order of Rs. 25,00,000 and traced the production location for delivery. Dr. Prashant stated, “This is how we found the place where these fake products were produced,” as reported by News 18.
The seized fake processing unit revealed 20 carton boxes, each containing 3 soaps (weighing 150 grams), 47 carton boxes with 9400 pieces, and 800 empty carton boxes. The information has been submitted to the police for further action.
It is crucial to note that Mysore Sandal soap is owned by the Karnataka government, making it the sole producer in the country. The discovery underscores the ongoing challenges in combating counterfeit goods and emphasizes the need for continued vigilance in protecting the integrity of renowned brands.
