A severely damaged stretch of road between Dehu and Yelawadi in Pune’s Maval taluka has raised major safety concerns after ten accidents were reported within three hours on the same spot. Though there were no fatalities, many two-wheeler riders sustained injuries after skidding on the slick surface, as captured by nearby CCTV footage.

The core issue lies in the poor condition of the road, riddled with deep potholes. In response to repeated complaints, local authorities recently carried out a temporary fix using soil to fill the potholes. However, this stopgap measure backfiredrainfall turned the soil into slippery mud, further worsening the risk for commuters.

Instead of improving safety, the muddy stretch has increased the frequency of accidents, frustrating locals who accuse officials of gross negligence. Residents are now urging the administration to take immediate and durable action, warning that lives may be lost if the road continues to be ignored.

This incident echoes broader concerns over Maharashtra’s road infrastructure. Earlier this month, a newly inaugurated bridge in Dombivli near Mumbai came under fire after video clips showed its surface breaking down just a day after opening.

Citizens are demanding long-term, quality road repairs, and not just cosmetic fixes that endanger public safety.
