A tragic incident unfolded late Saturday night at the Ernakulam Government Medical College, where a 24-year-old MBBS student was discovered dead in her hostel accommodation. The student, identified as Ambili P P, hailed from Thadiyankowal in Udinur, located in the Hosdurg region of Kasaragod district.

Ambili was pursuing her third year of the MBBS program. Her roommate made the distressing discovery around 11:45 p.m., finding her hanging from the ceiling fan with a piece of cloth. Authorities were promptly alerted, and police from the Kalamassery station arrived at the scene shortly thereafter.

An initial case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which pertains to unnatural deaths. The police have initiated inquest proceedings to examine the circumstances surrounding the death. Investigators are currently trying to determine what might have driven the young woman to take such a step.

The body remains at the hostel and will be shifted to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination following the completion of the inquest procedures. Officials stated that further details will be revealed once the autopsy report is available and the investigation progresses.

The college community is reportedly in shock over the untimely demise of a bright student, and counseling support may be offered to peers affected by the incident. Meanwhile, the police have not ruled out any angle and are thoroughly probing the case.
