Explosion at Thoothukudi Firecracker Factory Claims Two Lives

A tragic explosion occurred at a private firecrackers factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday evening, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to four others. The incident took place in the village of Mechankulam, Eral Circle, in the Tuticorin district.

The victims have been identified as Muthukannan (21) and Vijay (25). The injured are Selvam (21), Prashanth (20), Sendhurkani (45), and Muthumari (41). They are currently receiving treatment at Sathankulam Government Hospital for their serious injuries.

In response to this tragic event, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced a financial assistance package for the victims’ families. The Chief Minister has declared an ex-gratia payment of ₹3 lakhs each for the families of the deceased and ₹1 lakh each for the injured individuals.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Office posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “The Hon’ble Chief Minister @mkstalin has announced condolence and financial assistance to the families of the two persons who died in an explosion at a private firecracker factory in the village of Mechankulam, Eral Circle, Tuticorin District.”
