THRISSUR: A police team came under violent attack near Nellankara on Saturday while attempting to stop a suspected drug-fuelled party, resulting in five officers being injured and three official vehicles badly damaged.

The chaos reportedly began when the mother of one of the attendees alerted authorities about the party, which had started late Friday and continued into the early hours, growing excessively noisy.

Upon reaching the scene, the first batch of officers was met with aggression. The revelers, instead of cooperating, turned violent — assaulting the officers and damaging their jeep. When reinforcements arrived, the hostile group attacked them too, vandalising two more police vehicles.

According to police sources, six individuals were taken into custody, including a person already facing a murder charge. All five injured officers were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The situation eventually came under control after additional personnel were deployed. Authorities have stated that further action will depend on medical reports detailing the severity of injuries sustained by the officers.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident and are expected to file multiple charges, including assault on public servants and destruction of government property.

The incident has sparked concern about growing drug-related violence in residential areas and the dangers faced by law enforcement during such volatile interventions.
